Who is Douglas Warrington?
Doug Warrington was a banker for 42 years before his retirement in 2004. Shortly after that time, Doug and his wife Paula moved to the Kamiah area where they volunteered to help within the community.
Doug was an active participant on the Kamiah Planning & Zoning Committee. He loved fly fishing, hunting, making custom fly rods, and spending time with his wife and dogs.
Doug Warrington was a member of the Freedom Northwest Credit Union Board of Directors from February 2007 to December 2018. He served as Board Chairman for 10 years, retiring from that position in 2018. Doug played a key role in making Freedom Northwest Credit Union the thriving Credit Union it is today. He had a passion for his community and placed special focus on projects that enhanced local youth opportunities. Mr. Warrington passed away in the fall of 2020. Freedom Northwest Credit Union named this award after Mr. Warrington to recognize and honor his vital contributions.
Who is eligible?
Anyone who is graduating from Kamiah High School or Clearwater Valley High School or its equivalent in the Kamiah/Kooskia area this year.
I didn’t go to a public school; I was home-schooled and/or went to a private school – am I still eligible?
YES! You are still eligible to win this award if you live in the geographical boundaries of the Kamiah/Kooskia school districts.
What if I don’t plan to go to college, but instead plan to learn a trade, start a business, or directly enter the work force?
You are still eligible to win this award. Freedom Northwest Credit Union recognizes that colleges are not for everyone. If you are going directly into the work force, getting training in a trade, or starting a business; the award can help pay expenses related to starting your career.
How much is the award for?
$10,000
How many Merit Awards will be awarded?
Two Merit Awards will be given, each for $10,000.
What do I need to do to apply?
Fill in the form above. Include an essay describing how you would utilize these funds to further your career and future. Please explain why you merit winning the award. Include a summary of your relevant personal, academic, and community-based achievements. (Verification of listed achievements and accomplishments may be requested.)
Who decides who wins the award?
All applicants will be reviewed by a committee consisting of Freedom Northwest Employees, Board Members, and Community Members. The applicants’ names will be blinded from the committee during their review of the applications and essays.
When are applications due?
All applications are due by 11:59 pm on May 15th, 2024.
When will winners be announced?
All winners will be announced May 31st.
